More than four billion adults wear glasses. While there is no natural way to reverse or correct common vision issues like nearsightedness and farsightedness, there are steps you can take to keep your eyes healthy and strong, and, in some cases, improve your vision in the process.

Ways to Improve Your Vision Naturally

Get at Least Seven Hours of Sleep

When you are overly tired, your entire visual system can get fatigued. The result is blurry or less acute eyesight. Experts recommend that adults get at least seven hours of sleep each night; seniors should aim for seven to nine hours. This will allow adequate time for the eyes to rest and the visual system to strengthen.

Eat a Diet Rich in Vitamins A, C, & E

Vitamin-rich foods like carrots, red peppers, sweet potatoes, and green, leafy vegetables are excellent for eye health. They help prevent macular degeneration, an age-related condition that causes deterioration in the part of the eye that regulates central vision.

Wear Sunglasses

The eyes can get a sunburned just as the skin can. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet light weakens the eyes and makes them more susceptible to conditions—like cataracts and macular degeneration—that compromise your vision. Whenever you’re outdoors, wear sunglasses with 99 to 100 percent UVA and UVB protection.

Be Mindful of Screen Time

Electronic screens emit blue light that can harm the eyes and cause vision problems. When you use your electronic devices, keep tabs on the time, and schedule plenty of breaks to let the eyes rest. The 20/20/20 rule is an easy method to remember. Every 20 minutes, look up and focus on an object at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

Yearly eye exams are also crucial to maintaining eyesight and staying on top of any issues. Implementing these minor lifestyle changes now can have a major impact on your eye health and, ultimately your vision.
